Age Well Program Story

"Linda Nealon, a former actress and stuntwoman, and her brother Greg Dupree were concerned about their mother Beverley Dupree. “Mom had been experiencing symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease for the past four years,” said Linda. “She had started to repeat what she said and seemed to have disconnected a bit from reality. She also wasn’t taking care of herself, or her home.” Beverley Dupree lived in her own home, still retained her sunny personality and humor, and was in good health. Linda and Greg were stuck about what the next step should be. They had heard that MPTF’s Age Well program was highly regarded, and when they asked around, several friends also recommended it. Linda and Greg knew they had good reason to call. Beverley was suffering from memory loss and having difficulty maintaining her daily activities, two warning signs for any family member or caregiver.

Linda made an appointment for Beverley to have a geriatric assessment. 'At first Mom was resistant about going for the assessment,' said Linda, 'so I had to trick her and let her believe it was something I needed. But once we got to MPTF, everything changed. Mom relaxed and was really happy with the attention she received from the doctors.'

She was practically dancing by the end of the assessment because everyone had been so kind and understanding. “When we finally sat down with a doctor and social worker, they were able to very gently tell her what her state of mind was and then began to carefully prepare her, and us, for the next chapter of her life."
