In this Activities Calendar, you will find information about all of the services and classes available to you at no charge in the Third Quarter. Comprehensive Health Management

The Wellness Program offers several Comprehensive Management Programs each quarter to help you and your family maintain an excellent level of health and well-being. These classes will be higher impact, more intensive courses that usually run 2-6 weeks. These courses provide in-depth support, information, and motivation. All courses will require a commitment and class size will be limited.

Weight Management - Virtual Lifestyle Management (VLM)

Online

VLM is an easy-to-use, web-based program with personal coaching that will help you understand healthy lifestyle choices, identify easy and more interesting ways to increase your physical activity, monitor and track your success and adopt and maintain new healthy behaviors. You will only need access to a computer with high speed Internet service and audio capabilities. Each week you work through interactive, multimedia lessons to help you gain knowledge and skills needed to successfully learn new healthy behaviors. The VLM service combines human coaching from specially trained health professionals with a powerful web-based intervention that includes ongoing feedback and support through secured email messaging and coach-directed chat rooms. Space is limited! Call today to express your interest in this program. Participants must have a BMI of 25 or over and will be taken on a first come-first served basis. (New!) Hunger Trust: Reconnect with the Wisdom of Your Body | Eve Lahijani, R.D.

This course is a non-diet approach designed to reconnect you with your body’s natural eating cues, understand nutrition and develop an eating plan that is enjoyable, healthy and lifelong. Discover practical tools for knowing when, what and how much to eat. Develop an individual nutrition plan that is based on EATING food, not avoiding food! Feel energized and satisfied by understanding eating according to your internal hunger and fullness cues. Learn how to boost your metabolism and increase your energy levels by developing a consistent eating pattern and finally ending the weight loss/gain cycle by following a program that will allow your body to stabilize at your ideal weight!
Lowering Your Cholesterol Program

This program will include a cholesterol test at the beginning of the program. You will learn about the risks and problems of cholesterol, exercise, nutritional planning and guidelines to lower cholesterol, and Robyn Goldberg, R.D. will discuss tried and true practices to help you lower your total cholesterol level.

Many people have high blood pressure for years and don’t have a single symptom. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to heart attacks, and strokes. This course will discuss sodium guidelines, foods with hidden sodium as well as understanding what is on those food labels! Robyn Goldberg, R.D. will explore alternative flavorings and spices as well as how much sodium is enough. Learn about the DASH Diet and other important lifestyle changes you can do to control or prevent high blood pressure.

Feeling too many pressure and demands on you? Wondering if you’re reaching your limits emotionally? Stress is an emotion related to how we react to events. The events that provoke stress are called “stressors” and are different for each of us. During this 2 part workshop, Isabelle Smalios will take you through a step by step method that will allow you to modify your approach towards life, its challenges, demands and fluctuations. Learn tools to manage stress or even eliminate it within seconds. We can’t change the world, but we certainly have the power to experience life in a way that removes stress from our existence.

Happiness is a serious problem (according to Dennis Prager). You’ve got to "choose your attitude," and "focus on the positive," and use "positive self-talk" and blah blah blah . . . aren’t you ready to get down to brass tacks and just make it happen?! Let’s do it! In this fun-filled class, brain scientist and hypnotherapist Brennan Smith will help you learn how your brain can do all the work of making you happy (when you give it the right tools –- we’ll learn those too!) Once you know the right things, life’s hurdles and struggles just seem to go away (or get a whole lot easier).
Diabetes: Monitoring Your Blood Glucose

Foot Care and Diabetes – What You Need To Know

SELF-ESTEEM - Boosting Your Emotional and Physical Health

Adult CPR Heartsaver course

321 Bob Hope | August 14 from 9 am - 12 noon

322 Toluca Lake | September 25 from 9 am - 12 noon

This course is designed to teach CPR to those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. A two-year certification card is issued to students who complete the skills successfully. The curriculum consists of Adult and Child CPR, relief of choking and the use of barrier devices. Also included is a discussion about the risk factors leading to heart disease and stroke, prudent heart living, signs and signals for action, and the chain of survival.
CPR for Family and Friends

This course teaches CPR to parents and members of the community who want to learn CPR, but do not need certification for their job requirement. This program teaches infant/child/adult CPR and how to help a person of any age group who is choking. There is an overview of infant and childhood safety and accident prevention. (Please no children under the age of 12.)
What Your Pre-Teen and Teen Want You to Know | Judie Cotton, MFT

The adolescent journey is a roller-coaster ride for the teen and for the parent. Part of the problem is that communication gets off track. Teens do not want to listen (they know it all). Teens do not want to talk (one word answers are all one gets). This class will let you know what is not being said by your teen and help you find ways that may help them listen to what you are saying. Find out why you are the person with the best chance of guiding your teen. It is not too late. You can communicate.

Picture Quitting

Picture Quitting offers approximately six weeks of individual, group or telephone counseling, plus follow-up phone calls for up to one year. All counseling sessions are free. The first couple of visits with Picture Quitting prepare you to quit smoking. You and your counselor will choose a "Quit Day," so don't feel that you have to walk in on day one and quit.
